Connect with an API token

  1. In Cortex XSOAR:

    1. In Cortex XSOAR 8, go to Settings & Info › Settings › Integrations › API Keys and select New Key.
    2. Choose the security level Standard or Advanced.
    3. Assign a read-only role (an existing role or a custom role you created with view-only permissions). Optionally set an expiration and a comment.
    4. Select Generate, then copy the API key before closing the notification.

Where to find the other values:

    • Base URL: Select Copy API URL on the API Keys page; it copies your tenant's API address.
    • API key ID (optional): The ID column of the API Keys table (sent as the x-xdr-auth-id header).

Cortex XSOAR shows the secret only once, so copy it before you leave the page.

Steps are for Cortex XSOAR 8 (SaaS). The key cannot be viewed again after closing the notification. Cortex XSOAR 6 uses a different API Keys page; not covered.

    Source: cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com, checked 2026-10-07.

The permissions Safeguard needs: read-only role.

  2. On Compliance › Connectors, open Cortex XSOAR, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

    FieldWhat to enter
Base URLRequired. Your own server: an https address reachable from the internet.
API keyRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
    API key ID (optional)—
  3. Click Connect with token.

Frameworks

Safeguard's automated tests read Cortex XSOAR and map to the controls below. When a test passes, the result is evidence toward each control it maps to, in every framework listed. It is evidence toward a control, not proof that the control is met on its own.
