Connect with an API token

  1. In Stripe:

    1. In the Stripe Dashboard, switch to live mode and open the API keys page (dashboard.stripe.com/apikeys).
    2. Click Create restricted key and start from zero permissions.
    3. Enter a name in the Key name field.
    4. For each resource Safeguard should read, select Read; leave everything else at None (never Write).
    5. Click Create key and complete the two-factor verification.
    6. Click the key value to copy it (it starts with rk_live_); you can't retrieve it later.
    7. In the Add a note field, enter where you saved the key, then click Done.

Stripe shows the secret only once, so copy it before you leave the page.

Stripe recommends restricted API keys (rk_) over unrestricted secret keys (sk_); a restricted key with Read-only permissions is a true read-only credential. If Stripe prompts for the key's intended use, do not tag it as agent access. You can optionally attach an access policy (IP addresses) on the key's overflow menu › Manage access policy. Sandbox and live mode have separate keys.

    FieldWhat to enter
API token / Personal access tokenRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
    Base URL (optional)—
Account / Org / Workspace (optional)—
  3. Click Connect with token.

Connect with the MCP server

Choose MCP server: the address https://mcp.stripe.com is filled in. Sign in to Stripe when asked. It lets Griffin AI search Stripe.

Frameworks

No automated compliance test reads Stripe yet, so no framework lists it. How connectors provide evidence for frameworks: Frameworks and connectors.
