Connect with OAuth

Before you start, an administrator of Google Docs must allow third-party apps:

  • In the Google Admin console, go to Menu › Security › Access and data control › API controls.
  • Click Manage App Access, then for Configured apps, click Configure new app.
  • Enter Safeguard's app name or OAuth client ID, search, select the app, choose the organizational units it applies to, and click Continue.
  • Choose an access level: Trusted or Specific Google data (only these two can access restricted services; with Specific Google data, specify the Drive read-only scope). Avoid Blocked. Click Continue, review, then click Finish. Changes can take up to 24 hours.
  • If Unconfigured third-party apps is set to Don't allow users to access any third-party apps, users cannot approve Safeguard until this configuration is done.
  1. On Compliance › Connectors, open Google Docs, click Connect and choose OAuth.
  2. Sign in to Google Docs and approve Safeguard on its consent screen. Use an account that can approve apps for your organization, usually an administrator. Safeguard asks for https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly.
  3. You return to Safeguard, and the card shows Verified once the first check succeeds.

Connect with an API token

  1. In Google Docs, create the credential for API token / Personal access token, read-only where it offers that.

  2. On Compliance › Connectors, open Google Docs, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

    FieldWhat to enter
API token / Personal access tokenRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
    Base URL (optional)—
Account / Org / Workspace (optional)—
  3. Click Connect with token.

Frameworks

No automated compliance test reads Google Docs yet, so no framework lists it. How connectors provide evidence for frameworks: Frameworks and connectors.
