Connect with an API token

  1. In ownCloud:

    1. Sign in to ownCloud as the user Safeguard should connect as (the Provisioning API needs a user with sufficient access rights).
    2. Go to Personal Settings › Security.
    3. In the App Passwords / Tokens section, enter an app name in the text field.
    4. Click Create new app passcode.
    5. Copy the username and password / token now: once you click Done they are no longer discoverable.

Where to find the other values:

    • Username: Shown with the new app passcode.
    • Base URL: The https address of your ownCloud server.

ownCloud shows the secret only once, so copy it before you leave the page.

Steps are for ownCloud Server 11.0 (classic UI). An app passcode has the same rights as the account it belongs to.

    Source: doc.owncloud.com, doc.owncloud.com, checked 2026-10-07.

The permissions Safeguard needs. ownCloud shows the full user list only to administrators, so this credential must belong to one. Safeguard only reads with it.

  2. On Compliance › Connectors, open ownCloud, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

    FieldWhat to enter
Base URLRequired. Your own server: an https address reachable from the internet.
    UsernameRequired.
App passwordRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
  3. Click Connect with token.

Frameworks

Safeguard's automated tests read ownCloud and map to the controls below. When a test passes, the result is evidence toward each control it maps to, in every framework listed. It is evidence toward a control, not proof that the control is met on its own.
